Bar Plaza Hotel, Padova, 2007

Bar Plaza Hotel

The design of the interior bar at the Plaza Hotel in Padua, it’s the occasion to re-define a space which is complex and unsolved in its functionality and in its movement’s flows. The project confronts with an important pre-existence of signs, materials, luminous elements that characterize all the main spaces (reception, hall, room next to the bar, and accesses to conference rooms).
Through the use of few formal gestures, the project becomes the arranging element that influences a wider space beyond the limits of the project area, thus becoming the visual goal in terms of other areas of the hotel. It stands as a pause.
Its minimal character is the contact point and the prop for the coexistence of the numerous present languages.
A wide etched and extra white glass wall becomes the backdrop to the wooden elements of the lateral walls and floor. The glass wall is the only element of light of the project: during the day absorbs light that filters from the windows behind it, at night is illuminated by a bundle of led placed in the axis of the glass.
The bar counter is placed at the centre of the project. Its monolithic character is accentuated by the choice of the material, a black Corian treated with a lucid finish. The counter reflects everything that is close to it: lights, colours, objects. Rather than block the existence of these features it breaks itself down to reveal different points of view.
